Whilst we may still be stuck inside during the colder months, we can still indoor garden with kitchen windowsill herbs!  Mint, rosemary, basil, oregano, chives and parsley* all grow very well on a sunny windowsill, and there’s nothing nicer than being able to snip off a few fresh herbs as seasoning or a garnish whilst cooking.

Culinary herbs do like a sunny spot, so a south facing window would be best.  Plant up pots of single varieties or mix and match in a pot – most herbs are relatively compact and can be combined together.

Be careful not to over-water as that could cause root damage. For healthy plants water when the compost looks and feels dry and feed once a month with a liquid fertiliser.

Growing windowsill herbs is a great way to keep those green fingers busy over the winter months, but don’t forget there are other plants you can grow such as micro greens, mustard, cress and even pea shoots.

*We also have sage, chervil, thyme, marjoram, lemon balm, chamomile, fennel, hyssop, sorrel and many others!
