Dining at St. Johns
At St. John’s Garden Centres, we believe in bringing people together over delicious, locally sourced food. Our cafes and restaurants in Barnstaple and Ashford proudly use local suppliers wherever possible, ensuring that every meal is freshly cooked and packed with flavour. Whether you're after a hearty breakfast, a light snack, or a freshly prepared lunch, our menu offers something for everyone, with options to suit all dietary preferences, including gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan dishes. Plus, our weekly carvery in Barnstaple certainly draws a crowd for our homemade Yorkshire puddings and delicious roast meats.

We welcome well-behaved dogs on leads throughout our garden centres, and they’re welcome on our patios, though they are not permitted inside our restaurants (except for service dogs).
The Conservatory Cafe, Barnstaple
The Conservatory Café at St. John’s Barnstaple is the perfect spot to catch up with friends over a coffee and a slice of cake. Whether you’re craving something hearty, fancy a lighter bite, or feel like treating yourself to an indulgent ice cream milkshake, there’s plenty to choose from.
Rain or shine, our covered al fresco area lets you enjoy the fresh air while you relax and refuel - and dogs are very welcome to join you too! Throughout the year, you'll spot a number of events in our Snacks and Drinks Shack, be it burgers and hot dogs on the BBQ or sweet treats and shakes for a sunny bank holiday!
And for families, our Barnstaple store is also home to Jungleland, the ideal place for little ones to burn off some energy before or after their meal.
The Garden Room, Ashford
The Garden Room at Ashford is a light, bright space for light bites and hearty meals. What's more, when the sun is shining the al fresco dining areas are the place to be. The tasty treats are paired with a fantastic play area for children, updated for 2024, and a giant bench which makes for a photo opportunity.
This Christmas, you can even enjoy breakfast with Santa on the 7th, 14th and 21st December! Bookings will open shortly.
